Mumbai Police on Thursday carried out a massive drug disposal drive in Maharashtra's Raigad district and destroyed Rs 80 crore worth of narcotics, officials said.
The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch destroyed 162 kg of narcotics and 7,908 codeine-mixed bottles worth Rs 80.56 crore. The destruction took place at a closed kiln facility of Mumbai Waste Management Limited in Taloja, Raigad, they said.
According to the police, the seized consignment included 144.31 kg of ganja, 8.216 kg of charas, 6.048 kg of cocaine, 2.197 kg of MD, 1.679 kg of heroin, and 7,908 codeine-mixed bottles, all confiscated in cases registered under the Anti-Narcotics Cell.
The operation marks the second large-scale narcotics disposal in 2025.
Earlier in May, Mumbai Police had destroyed 530 kg of narcotics and 4,433 codeine-mixed bottles worth Rs 50.30 crore. Combined, both operations have led to the destruction of 692 kg of and 12,341 codeine-mixed bottles, with an estimated market value of Rs 130.86 crore.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police, Deven Bharti, and in the presence of Joint Commissioners of Police Lakhmi Gautam and Satyanarayan Choudhary, Additional Commissioner Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner Navnath Dhawale, and Assistant Commissioner Sudhir Hirdekar. Chemical experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Kalina, and Police Inspectors in charge of the warehouse ensured the proper completion of the process.
