In a major step towards improving public transport, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced a 'Task Force' to integrate a plan for all public transport undertakings in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), aiming to provide a seamless and single-ticket experience to passengers.
Elaborating on the plan, an official said, "NITI Aayog has proposed a concept for developing urban areas as 'Growth Hubs' (G-HUBs). Through this concept called G-HUB, a roadmap is being prepared for implementation by developing economic growth strategies for selected areas across the country. In the initial phase, it has been decided to implement this concept on a pilot basis in four urban areas -- namely Mumbai Metropolitan Region (Maharashtra), Surat (Gujarat), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh). Among these, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (Maharashtra) has been selected as the pilot city-state."
"The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Economic Master Plan–Growth Hub is being prepared to oversee the rapid implementation of recommendations that will drive the economic development of the state, attract foreign investment, sustain momentum, and promote startups and employment opportunities. To give final approval to the MMR Economic Master Plan and to guide the Growth Hub Coordination Committee for the implementation of this concept, a Growth Hub Regulatory Council has been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis," he added.
A task force is being constituted by the Government Order with a view to preparing an Integrated Bus Transportation Plan for the MMR. As per the mandate of the task force, all bus services will be integrated to provide a seamless and single-ticket experience to the passengers of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
"The working group should prepare an integrated bus transport plan for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region," a Government Resolution (GR) stated.
