The battle over recognition for the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) has reached the PMO. It has received five letters in the last few months by Aditya Varma, the lone ranger whose legal battle against N Srinivasan drowned the cricket czar.

Varma, tired of asking everyone, including Shashank Manohar, has now appealed to Modi to intervene so that CAB gets the much-awaited recognition. Varma’s panic is understandable. The new power group in Bihar, in which former CM Laloo Prasad Yadav has a major say, is ranged against him.

Recently, Publishers Penguin India announced the speaker for the Penguin Annual Lecture 2015 scheduled for mid December. Octogenarian author Ruskin Bond will grace the stage this time around.

A walk for the wealthy?
Whoever said charity is for the rich, has been proven right. A popular international NGO recently organised a trailwalking event in Lonavla to raise funds for those in need. The walk, we were told, was designed to help people break away from sedentary city life, and raise funds to battle social inequality.
The walking challenge, which concluded yesterday, had many teams of four, covering a pre-determined trail of 100 kms in Lonavla in 48 hours. That’s not all. Each team was required to pay a R20,000 registration fee and raise a minimum donation of R80,000. If they failed, they would forfeit the registration amount as charity. We are not against charity, but restrictions at a public event, aren’t exactly motivating.
Mame Khan will woo Mumbai
The fifth edition of Awestrung, scheduled to take place on November 27, at High Street Phoenix in Lower Parel, has a special artiste from the sandy dunes of Jaisalmer. A member of the Manganiyar tribe, Mame Khan has a long, illustrious lineage of singers, all entrenched in the Manganiyari singing tradition.

He also happens to be the first Manganiyar singer to have successfully launched a crowd-funded album, named Desert Sessions. Khan is expected to perform some of his most popular songs including Chaudhary, Nimbura, Mast Qalandar, Chhap Tilak, Baware, Jugni, Bulla, Lolee, Jhir Mir as well as a few hits from Desert Sessions. Expect a heady musical rendezvous that will see the merging of Rajasthani Folk, Sufi and Krishna Bhajan in an open-air setting.
