Two people sustained serious injuries after a tree fell on them in Powai during heavy pre-monsoon rains that lashed Mumbai on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday evening, the city witnessed severe pre-monsoon showers, making the scenario across the city a lot more complex. Strong winds in the city's outskirts, along with heavy rainfall, exacerbated the situation.

According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident occurred at around 8:40 PM near Jal Vayu Vihar, Sector C, close to S M Shetty School in Powai. The incident was reported at 8:52 PM.

One of the injured women was identified as Shobha, 40 yrs. As reported by the Mumbai Fire Brigade department, Shobha Torne sustained a deep head injury. She is currently going under treatment, and her condition is said to be stable. The other victim has been identified as Prashant Tomre (45). Prashant has also been injured seriously because of this unfortunate incident, but luckily he is also currently out of danger and is going through the advised treatment.

Tuesday's downpour led to flooding and waterlogging in several neighbourhoods, including Andheri, Dahisar, Borivali, Bandra, Kurla, Powai, and Saki Naka. Key areas such as DN Nagar and Chakala also experienced flood-like conditions, disrupting vehicular movement.

The heavy rain forced the closure of the Andheri Subway, a major connector between Andheri East and West. The shutdown caused significant traffic congestion, compounding the chaos for commuters during peak hours.

On Tuesday, Jogeshwari received the highest rainfall of 63 mm, followed by 57 mm in Andheri (Malpa Dongri) and 40 mm in Andheri (East) by 8 pm, informed the officials.

In eastern suburbs, Powai received the highest 38 mm rainfall, followed by 29 mm in Bhandup (S ward office) and 27 mm in Tembhi Pada, they said.

Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in the metropolis between 8 pm and 11 pm with western suburbs receiving the highest precipitation, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.

The island city recorded an average rainfall of 12.86 mm, while eastern and western suburbs received 15.65 mm and 26.63 mm rainfall, respectively, in three hours, they said.
