A young woman was brutally assaulted by three women outside her building in Navi Mumbai’s Ghansoli area after they suspected her of having an affair with their married brother.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place in the early hours of Sunday when the victim stepped out of her building. The trio allegedly stopped her and sought to confirm her identity before stating, “Why are you trying to break up our brother’s home?” Without waiting for a reply, they allegedly began hitting her.

When another woman tried to intervene, she, too, was pushed and attacked. Locals rushed to the spot and managed to catch the accused as they tried to flee, handing them over to the police. However, the victims have claimed that when they went to the Kopar Khairane police station to file a complaint, the officers allegedly refused to register their FIR and instead blamed them for the altercation.

“The incident was captured on a CCTV camera. We just want justice. The police must review the footage and take strict action against the attackers,” the victim said. Despite reaching out to senior police officers to find out why an FIR wasn’t registered in connection with the complaint, mid-day received no reply by press time.
