Ahead of Diwali, Mumbaikars were seen thronging markets in large numbers despite the rising number of Covid-19 cases. After the Ganeshotsav, in August, the city was reporting between 250 and 350 cases, which went up to 400-500 cases in September. On the other hand, West Bengal also witnessed an increase in Covid-19 cases after Durga Puja.
While Maharashtra has fully vaccinated three crore citizens as of now against Covid-19, the threat of Covid-19 still looms with the advent of a new variant.
On October 27, Mumbai reported 420 coronavirus positive cases and four deaths, taking the infection tally to 7,54,669 and toll to 16,229.
This is after a gap of two days that the daily Covid-19 count in the city crossed the 400-mark. Mumbai had reported 276 and 293 infections on October 25 and 26 respectively.
Mumbai's average recovery rate is 97 per cent, the official said. The city's average case doubling rate is 1,373 days and the growth rate is 0.05 per cent for the period between October 20 and 26, said an official.
It is quite pertinent that people don't let their guard down amid the festive season and maintain social distancing, Covid-19 protocols.
