Ahead of Diwali 2025, the Western Railway on Monday announced that it has decided to temporarily stop the sale of platform tickets at four major stations amid festive rush.

An official statement said that to manage expected crowding during the upcoming festive season, Western Railway has announced temporary restrictions on the sale of platform tickets at select major stations in the Mumbai Central Division.

As per a press release by Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the restriction will be in place from October 15 to 31, 2025. The move is aimed at ensuring smooth passenger movement and maintaining safety at busy stations.

The stations where platform tickets will not be sold during this period include, Bandra Terminus, Vapi, Udhna and Surat. However, exceptions will be made in genuine cases which include individuals helping senior citizens, women passengers, persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), uneducated passengers and anyone needing special care will be allowed access, based on the need, the statement said.

It said that the Western Railway has appealed to the public to plan their journeys in advance, and to cooperate with staff by following the restrictions, which are meant for the safety and comfort of passengers during this high-traffic period.
