u00a0Sharad Mohol, who came into the limelight after allegedly killing IM operative Qateel Siddiqui at Yerawada Central Jail in July this year, is likely to be elected as a member of Panachayat of Mutha village in Mulshi taluka unopposed, as no one has yet filed the candidature against him.

Resident Naib Tehsildar of Mulshi taluka Trupti Patil said that 27-year-old Mohol filed his nomination on December 5 for the by-poll, which will be held on December 23. The seat was lying vacant, as one of the members had resigned a few months back citing personal reasons.

“It’s just political apathy and not fear that is stopping the villagers from opposing Mohol’s nomination,” said Patil. She added that December 8 would be the last date for him to take back the nomination, after which he would be elected as a member of the panchayat.

Narrating Mohol’s nomination process, Patil said that he had brought a police van to the tehsil office in the afternoon. However, his nomination procedure was completed in the police van within half an hour, considering the risk involved in letting him out of the jail premises. According to officials in Mulshi tehsil, Mohol submitted all the necessary documents for the nomination procedure.

Mohol’s family had shifted to the Kothrud area in the city few years back, but the family has their own house in Mutha.
“I have known Mohol for the last two years and his body language has always been arrogant. When he came to file his nomination form, I experienced the same attitude in him,” Patil said.

Meanwhile, Mohol’s defense counsel ND Patil said that Mohol is just an accused and the allegations against him have not yet been proved. Therefore, there would not be any obstacle in his standing for the election.

“While submitting his necessary documents for the nomination procedure, Mohol mentioned all the pending cases that are lodged against him. However, if he proved to be criminal in future, his membership in the panchayat would be cancelled,” he said.

Mohol’s bio-data
Mohol first appeared on police records in January 2010 when he allegedly killed a criminal, Kishore Marne. In the next two years, Mohol had six cases of serious crimes against him, forcing the police to slap the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on him. On February 19 this year, Mohol and his accomplice Alok Bhalerao, were arrested by the anti-extortion cell near Warje Malwadi for his alleged involvement in kidnapping Dasve village’s sarpanch for a ransom of Rs 47 lakh. In July this year, Mohol along with Bhalerao allegedly murdered IM terrorist Qateel Siddiqui in Yerawada jail. u00a0
