After a heartening response from municipal school students to online education, corporation receives three more proposals to institute e-learning schools
Civic schools are taking the smart way. e-learning tools in day to day sessions is not only restricted with private schools but the similar demand is also increasing from civic schools. While the Pune Municipal Corporation education board already inaugurated four new e-learning schools (see box) recently, three more are in the pipeline.

“Recently, we received proposals to start three more e-learning facilities in city’s suburbs like Kothrud, Kondhwa and Bhavani Peth,” said Shubhangi Chavan, deputy chief, PMC education board.
Budget-wise
The budgetary provision for every e-learning school is Rs 1 crore. Chavan said, “We had earmarked Rs 4 crore in our budget to start four e-learning schools, which we did in the current academic year. All these schools are equipped with big television screens, a computer lab and exclusive Internet connection.”u00a0She added, “We are promoting this new way of teaching after observing that children pick up the subject easily with these new tech-savvy tools.”
E-merging trend
Swati Londhe, principal of Ramchandra Bankar e-learning school at Gondhalenagar, said, “Our school converted into an e-learning school last academic year and the merit of this transformation was reflected in our student strength. Last year, the school’s strength was 212, which increased to 471 students in the ongoing year. Till last year, our school was up to Std IV, but with the overwhelming response from parents, we have added two more grades up to Std VI.”
PMC’s e-learning facilities
At the beginning of this academic year:
>> Sant Tukaram school started in Pashan.
>> Lahuji Vastad Salve school commenced at Yerawda.
>> Another e-learning school started at the disputed Sun Dew residential apartment on Prabhat Road, which PMC had acquired to start a mortar-and-concrete school.
>> Ramchandra Bankar school at Gondhalenagar morphed into an e-learning school.
PMC wises up to cyber security, sanctions audit
PMC standing committee on Tuesday approved a long-pending proposal of auditing cyber security, and allocated Rs 67 lakh for it. “The proposed cyber audit will assure that complied data of various departments remain secure and websites remain out of danger of getting hacked,” Vishal Tambe, chairperson of PMC standing committee, said.
