The accused was irked after receiving complaints from neighbours about his 7-month-old pup stealing their footwear
Tushar Mali and his seven-month-old pet were not getting along. A friend had gifted him the pooch about 15 days ago, but the Thane resident was tired of being hounded by neighbours, as the mongrel would often pinch their footwear.
On Tuesday evening Mali returned home in an inebriated state and lost his temper on seeing the dog. The 25-year-old allegedly picked up the canine and threw it off the first floor of his building. His anger hadn’t receded yet, so Mali went downstairs and flayed the injured animal with his belt.

Luckily for the pup, some animal lovers gathered there. One of them called up Sadbhavna Charitable Trust and their representatives reached the spot in a short while.
In the meantime, Mali had managed to escape. So, onlookers took the dog to a local veterinary hospital, where it is recovering from its injuries. A complaint was also lodged at Naupada police station.
Animal lover and Sadbhavna Charitable Trust member Bhavanji Chhadwa said, “The dog is currently at SPCA hospital in Thane. Many of its teeth are broken and it has received several other injuries to its head and legs. Doctors say the canine is stable and is recuperating.”
Senior inspector JD More of Naupada police station said, “A non-cognisable complaint has been registered and investigations are on.”
The police station will now get a written confirmation from Mali that he won’t harm any other pet or animal in future.u00a0
