A report in this paper stated that for the past couple of months, residents have found themselves enveloped in smoke because of nightly fires lit to extract metal from trash. The burning garbage has compounded the poor air quality since the past few days. With temperatures dipping in the city, there is thick smog hanging over the locality for long periods of time.

We need the police and civic authorities to become alert to this menace, which is a big health hazard for residents. Mumbai does not have the best air quality to begin with, and those with respiratory problems struggle during this period every year, as the lower temperatures lead to further complications.
