Man scales hospital window to bid goodbye to mother dying of COVID-19

A heartwarming video of a man scaling a high wall of a hospital and sitting on the window to bid farewell to his mother has left netizens teary-eyed. According to a report by Al Nas, the man identified as Jihad Al-Suwaiti climbed up to the window of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hebron State Hospital where his mother was bring treated for COVID-19.


Al-Suwaiti, the Palestinian is a resident of Beit Awa in West Bank. Since the outbreak of coronavirus, the patients have been kept in isolation wards in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus. Unfortunately, Al-Suwaiti's mother Rasmi Suwaiti (73) died on Thursday evening, shortly after the unexpected visit from her son.



Mohamad Safa, human rights activist and a representative to the United Nations, took to Twitter and shared pictures of the man sitting on the window bidding goodbye to his mother. Safa said that Jihad used to climb up to the hospital room and sit on the window to see his mother every night until she passed away.

Since being shared, the post has collected over 1.34 lakh likes and about 54,000 retweets.

One user said, "You know what?? Loose you mother it feels like you lose half of your energy, soul, breath!!", another wrote, "Can this become any more sad when we are only able to comfort our loved ones through a window, phone, or tablet?"

As per the report in Al Nas, Jihad's mother Rasmi Suwaiti was diagnosed with leukemia when she tested positive for COVID-19. The septuagenarian was admitted to the Hebron State Hospital and spent about five days in the hospital receiving treatment.

While speaking to Arabic Post, Jihad Al-Suwaiti said, "I sat helplessly behind the outside window of the intensive care room, watching her last moments." He also said that he tried to visit his ailing mother in the hospital room when he was informed of her deteriorating condition. However, he wasn't allowed to enter her hospital room. In order to say goodby to his mother, Jihad climbed up to the hospital window.
