The idea for fantasy trilogy "Brahmastra" is inspired by the Himalayas, says director Ayan Mukerji. "I would never have written 'Brahmastra', if not for the Himalayas. It was where the idea for the movie - the entire trilogy - came to me, and no other place on earth could have inspired it," Mukerji shared on his social media platform.
"How do I describe what the Himalayas make me feel? I just can't, because words fall short. Their magnificence and spirituality is something I constantly keep going to because it makes my soul better. Amongst all my travels in this world, I rate my time in the Himalayas the highest, and amongst all the things I love about India, I feel proudest that we have the Himalayas," Ayan Mukerji added.
Few films have piqued the audience's curiosity the way Brahmastra has. Since its announcement in 2017, there has been much conjecture about the Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer, courtesy the grand scale it is mounted on.
In an interview with mid-day, Alia Bhatt said: "Ranbir and I have always maintained that Brahmastra is not a superhero film; it is a mystical fantasy drama. There is no reference [for comparison]. It's a new film that is emerging from our industry. It could be a film that will make this industry proud and put us on a global pedestal. I don't want to blow my own trumpet, but there's immense faith in Ayan's vision."
In keeping with the ambitious nature of the movie, the makers unveiled the logo in a spectacular fashion, on the final day of the Kumbh mela in Prayagraj.
"The film is deeply rooted in mythology. Brahmastra is the biggest astra and has played a crucial role in every important war and every mythological text from the Mahabharata to the Ramayana. Once the story starts unravelling, everyone will understand why we launched it with drones at the Kumbh mela," the actress further continued.
"Brahmastra", produced by Dharma Productions, is releasing this Christmas. Also backed by Fox Star Studios, the movie stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna in key roles.
