    Maharashtra Industry Minister Subash Desai, on Monday said that as many as 25,000 companies with six lakh workers in non-red zones across the state have started operating following some relaxations that were provided against the COVID-19 lockdown. Desai also said that out of 9,147 companies that have permits, about 5,774 have started production.

    After taking over Praveen Pardeshi, BMC's new chief, Iqbal Singh Chahal directed senior officials to screen everyone in the 2,646 containment zones which are spread across the city. Focusing on contact tracing, Chahal said that the rate should be doubled and high-risk contacts should be immediately shifted from slum areas to institutional quarantine facilities. He also directed BMC officials to allot two ambulances for each COVID centre.

    In an unprecedented move, the BMC sealed a huge slum in Dahisar's Navagaon amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Ganpat Patil Nagar. The civic body closed the New Link Road, thereby preventing entry and exit to the huge slum in Dahisar. After sealing the area, the civic body has deployed health workers to screen the residents at Ganpat Patil Nagar, which has a population of over 50,000.

    The Indian Railways on Monday issued reservation to more than 54,000 passengers within three hours of commencement of booking. All seats on the daily trains till May 17 were booked within minutes of IRCTC opening the booking on Monday evening. For the first time since March 25, when the lockdown began, a total of 15 trains for different destinations will leave New Delhi on Tuesday for which bookings began on Monday.

Agarwal also urged people not to panic but requested them to step out and get timely treatment if infected with coronavirus. He also said that the total number of corona patients in the country increased to 67,152 with 2,206 deaths.

    In a disheartening news, Six Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, said an official statement on Monday. Among the six BSF personnel, four are from Kolkata, and one each from Tripura and New Delhi. All six of the BSF personnel are under treatment in designated COVID Health Care hospitals, the BSF said.

While addressing a press conference, the Health Ministry said that the aim of the survey is to monitor the trend in the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection at the district level. Throat/nasal swabs will also be collected for RT-PCR tests.

    A total of 798 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 8,002 in the state. While Maharashtra accounts for almost a third of the total cases, it is followed by Gujarat being the second most affected state followed by Tamil Nadu.
