Coronavirus outbreak: With restricted travel and schools shut, here's what states are doing

    With the rising number of positive Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, the state government has issued a circular that introduces a seating arrangement in BEST buses and also introduced the school buses to run on everyday routes in order to reduce crowd. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked transport agencies like metro, buses and railways to try and run at 50% passenger capacity. Railways have clarified this by saying this means limiting crowds in a particular compartment and not curtailing of services.The circular also added that shops in crowded market areas would be open on alternate days and the owners will be updated about it in the coming weeks.

    Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has ordered to impose Section 144 of CrPC, which prohibits assembly of more than four people in an area, in order to contain the spread of coronavirus till March 31. Gehlot led Congress government in the state had earlier imposed Section 2 of the Rajasthan Epidemic Disease Act, 1957 in the state which prohibits the gathering of more than 50 people at public places till March 31.

    The Gujarat government, as a precautionary measure, has closed down all tourist sites, including the Statue of Unity in Narmada district. Besides, all schools, cinema halls and zoos have also been closed down till the end of this month. Gujarat has not registered any positive case of the coronavirus so far.

    The Haryana government on March 18 cancelled annual examinations for Classes 1 to 8 in all government and private schools till March 31, officials said on Wednesday. The Haryana School Education Department has the decision as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus, they said.

    Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced a corpus fund of Rs 200 crore to tackle the spread of coronavirus. "While there will be a partial shutdown for 10 more days in the state, the government has also allotted Rs 200 crore of corpus fund for the coronavirus," Yediyurappa said.

    The Madhya Pradesh government's health department issued a notification declaring coronavirus as a "notified infectious disease" in the entire state, said a Public Relations Department officer. Meanwhile, state Chief Secretary M Gopal Reddy talked to officials including the district collector through a video conference on Wednesday to take the stock of coronavirus monitoring measures, said officials.

    In its revised guidelines on the 'Clinical Management of COVID - 19' issued on March 18, the Kerala Health Ministry recommended Lopinavir-Ritonavir, a drug for the treatment of HIV for high-risk groups patients aged above 60, suffering from diabetes mellitus, renal failure, chronic lung disease and are immunocompromised.

    Jammu and Kashmir administration on Wednesday appealed foreigners not to visit the Union Territory, warning that all visitors, including those coming from Ladakh, would be quarantined. Principal Secretary (Planning, Development and Monitoring) Rohit Kansal also said the government has decided to enforce 100 percent checking of passengers at Banihal Railway station, the gateway town to Kashmir valley.

    The Delhi government on Wednesday ordered its six hospitals to start collecting samples for coronavirus test with immediate effect, officials said.The order also said that if needed a hospital may procure VTMs (viral transport media) at their own level. Hospitals which do not have facilities for isolation beds would need to transfer the VTMs kits to these six hospitals, it said. The chief secretary on March 17 had reviewed the status of quarantine facilities through video conferencing with deputy commissioners, and intimated the procedures of the screening of passengers at the airport who have returned from the COVID-19-affected countries.

    In Mizoram, the Inspector General of Police said that 42 entry points to the state along its inter-state and international borders have been sealed to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

    The Odisha government issued guidelines for protection of labourers, domestic animals and disinfection of ATMs. "Volunteers of OSDMA (Odisha State Disatser Mitigation Authority) will inspect the ATM counters to cross check the sanitary operations under taken by Bank Authorities and any violation will be viewed seriously," the government spokesperson said.
    Meanwhile, the Puri district administration has asked the tourists to vacate hotels in the holy town within two days in wake of the COVID-19 situation and discouraged hoteliers on
    fresh booking.
