    The coronavirus took a firm hold over the country, with over 30 percent cases being linked to the Tablighi Jamaat assembly last month. According to the Health Ministry, the number of positive cases in the country exceeded 3,200 and the number of deaths were at 96.

    A unit of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has designed a full-body disinfection chamber for healthcare workers who are at the forefront of the battle against coronavirus, it said on Saturday.

    As many as 145 persons were confirmed to have coronavirus infection in Maharashtra on Saturday, taking the number of patients to 635, an official statement said. A total of 32 COVID-19 patients have died in the State so far.

    Further, six coronavirus patients died in the State during the day. Four of them were from Mumbai, one in Amravati and one at Mumbra in Thane district, it said.

    The National Health Authority (NHA) said that testing and treatment for COVID-19 will be free of cost for Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries at private laboratories and empanelled hospitals.

    Two more cases have been reported in Dharavi, a 30-year-old and a 48-year old resident. The total number of cases in Dharavi is now four, excluding the conservancy worker who was not a resident.

    Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, "Till now we have traced 9 lakh people approximately by deploying 2,495 teams. These teams are working in 290 containment zones that we have marked in Mumbai and likewise in other districts."

    He added, "Let me assure, we have stock of 25,000 personal protection equipment (PPE), 25 lakh N95 masks and 25 lakh triple-layer masks. In government hospitals, we have 1,500 ventilators. We are arranging for further 2,000 ventilators for other hospitals under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Scheme."

    Taj hotels in Mumbai also decided to host doctors, nurses who are on COVID-19 duty. Meanwhile, Groceries, vegetables and oackaged products continued to remain in short supply and forced many shops to put their shutters

    BMC declared five dedicated hospitals for Covid-19 positive patients and shifted all the positive patients in these hospitals where staff with proper personal protection equipment will handle them.

    Meanwhile, exams have largely been cancelled. Colleges are keeping the momentum of studies going. KC College in Churchgate, for instance, will conduct exams as scheduled but with a difference. The exams scheduled for April 8 will now be a practice test online for students, while the actual exam will be held later

    On Saturday, an unidentified body of a woman was found opposite the BMC headquarters. The woman will be being tested for Coronavirus.
