1 - Shikhar Dhawan (187) - Dhawan scored a mammoth 187 against Australia at Mohali in March 2013. In the process, he went on to break a couple of records as well. He took over Gundappa Viswanath’s record to put up the highest ever Test score by an Indian on debut. He also recorded the fastest century on a Test debut ever, scoring it in 85 deliveries. 2 - Rohit Sharma (177) - Rohit Sharma, posted the second-highest score by an Indian on a Test debut during Tendulkar’s farewell Test series against West Indies at Eden Gardens in November 2013. He became only the third Indian to score back to back centuries in the first two Tests when he scored an unbeaten 111. (Pic/ Midday)
3 - Gundappa Viswanath (137) - Viswanath scored the highest Test score by an Indian at the time, when he put on 137 against Australia at Kanpur in November 1969. (Pic/ Midday archives)
Prithvi Shaw scored a brilliant 134 against West Indies in Rajkot in October 2018. Prithvi Shaw also created a record to become the youngest Indian cricketer to score a hundred on his Test debut as he was 18 years of age.
4 - Sourav Ganguly (131) - Ganguly, fondly known as Dada, scored 131 against England at Lord’s in June 1996. He then went on to score another ton in his second innings which is a feat achieved by only a few cricketers. His innings remains the highest score by an individual on Test debut at Lord’s. 5 - Surinder Amarnath (124) - The son of Indian cricket veteran Lala Amarnath, scored 124 against New Zealand at Auckland in January 1976. (Pic/ Agencies)
6 - Suresh Raina (120) - After Yuvraj fell ill, India’s all-rounder Raina was brought into the Test squad, five years after his ODI debut, which is the longest for any cricketer. 7 - Lala Amarnath (118) - The veteran cricketer became the first Indian to score a hundred for India; this feat he achieved on his debut in Tests. Lala scored 118 against England in Mumbai in December 1933. (Pic/ Midday archives)
8 - Abbas Ali Baig (112) - Baig became the first Indian to score a Test century on a debut overseas when he scored 112 against England at Old Trafford in July 1959. He also became the youngest Indian centurion in Tests. (Pic/ Midday archives)
