Rohit Sharma has said in a statement that he will be opening for Mumbai Indians in all IPL matches this year. In previous years, the MI batting line up has suffered due to their main man Rohit Sharma not getting to bat enough overs while batting in the middle order.
All-rounder Siddhesh Lad will be one of the key men for Mumbai Indians. Siddhesh has impressed for Mumbai in the domestic circuit over the years, Rohit Sharma while speak about the cricketer, said, "Siddhesh has been part of this team for three-four years now. He's been a consistent in domestic cricket [for Mumbai]. I feel that somewhere down the line, we need to play him to see what he's all about when it comes to the IPL. I wouldn't say Siddhesh is inexperienced. It's just that he hasn't played the IPL. He's raw, so the opposition may be surprised with his skill set,"
Zaheer Khan, who is the director of the cricket operations at Mumbai Indians, spoke about the workload management of the Indian players in the IPL, considering the World Cup is just around the corner. He said, "You have to listen to your body… what kind of signals you are getting. There are individuals who work with different trainers, so they are also connected. We all recognise how important the World Cup as a tournament is and we also understand what IPL brings to the table and that is match practice and intensity. You don't want a long lay-off for any cricketer, be it a bowler or a batsman. He needs to be in touch and dealing with pressure. That is also going to be a huge factor in the World Cup. We recognise and understand that. Steps will be taken keeping into consideration all aspects,"
Zaheer Khan said that the performances in this year's IPL will play a role in the World Cup selections for Indian players. He said, "I'm sure that form is going to matter. I think everyone is very keen and upbeat to grab a spot,"
