    India reported highest single-day spike in new cases of coronavirus as the country recorded 5,242 new COVID-19 cases thereby taking India's tally to 96,169 on the first day of the fourth phase of the lockdown. The Health Ministry said that a total of 36,824 people have been cured of COVID-19, thus taking the recovery rate to 38.29 percent in the country.

    With 67 police personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, the total number of positive COVID-19 police personnel in the State reached 1,273 on Monday, said Maharashtra Police. Out of the total COVID-19 police personnel cases, 131 are police officers while 1142 are other police personnel. So far, 11 police personnel have succumbed to the infection in the State.

    On Day 1 of the extended lockdown till May 31, eight companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) reached Maharashtra while two are expected to reach the state later tonight to assist police with COVID-19 duties, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said. While five companies - each with 120 highly-trained personnel will be deployed in the city from tomorrow, five others will be deployed across the state.
