Meezan, when asked about, his approach towards a glamorous profession like acting said, "I am a realist, therefore, I am pretty focused on my work. "I have literally seen the good and also the dark phase of my father's career. There was a time when my father, being a family man, did films so that he could pay bills for many things including my education. I have got a good life but I saw him struggle.

Meezan further added, "He is also very loved and respected because he is a skilled dancer and actor. The whole thing made me understand that if I am good in my craft, I will get my due and if I have love and support of the audience, I will get what I want as an actor."
The story of Malaal is set in Mumbai where Shiva, a Marathi youngster from a chawl, falls in love with a north Indian. Born and brought up in Mumbai, Meezaan had an urban upbringing. Playing the character of a Marathi young man was certainly not easy for his debut film. However, a year-long workshop and guidance of director Mangesh Hadawale and producer Sanjay Leela Bhanshali helped him to find the nuance of the character.

Sharmin Segal, a niece of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, said recently she will not use her family name to land film roles and would rather sharpen her skills to remain in the business of entertainment. The actress is already facing questions on nepotism, during the film's promotions. Asked if coming from a film family has been an advantage for her, Sharmin said: "I will not rely on my family name to get work, but only on talent and hard work. As far as I have observed, only talent and the liking of the audience can make me survive in Bollywood.
Sharmin further added, "From the beginning of my journey, I have been told not to rely on the relationship with Sanjay sir even to gain popularity, or to get photographed. I know that the comment on nepotism will come my way, but did I choose my family? We don't, right? Therefore, I do not want to be judged on that. I would rather want people to praise and criticize me because of who I am on-screen. Having said that, of course, I will work hard to justify every opportunity that comes my way."
Priyanka Chopra's mother Madhu Chopra and brother Siddharth Chopra also attended the special screening of Malaal at the preview theatre in Andheri.
