Mumbai crime: Ghansoli man kills wife, stuffs body in drum and dumps in bushes

  • On July 22, Ambuj Tiwari called wife Neelam to friend Shrikant Choubey's home in Ghansoli, and she spent the night there. Story/Anurag Kamble, Illustration/Uday Mohite

  • Next morning, the couple fought again and Ambuj strangled Neelam to death using her dupatta

  • Ambuj stuffed her body in a plastic drum and used Shrikant's tempo to dump her body

  • Later on July 23, Ambuj and Shrikanth loaded the drum, with Neelam's corpse, in the tempo and started driving towards Pune via the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, said ACP (Vashi Division) Vinayak Vatsa

  • They stopped near Khopoli and went about around 20 feet away from the road and dumped the drum in the bushes, after which they disappeared. Ambuj did not contact anyone, not even his father Mahendra Tiwari, who started looking for him when he could not reach either his son or his daughter-in-law. Her body was found in a decomposed state on July 28

  • On July 23, Mahendra filed a complaint at Rabale police station after failing to contact his son

  • On July 28, cops found Ambuj and Shrikant, and after being grilled for hours Ambuj confessed to have committed the crime
