Nitin Bali: Bollywood singer Nitin Bali, who was celebrated for his '90s renditions, including Neele Neele Ambar and Ek Ajnabee, passed away on October 10, 2018 after battling head injuries he sustained in a road accident. According to the police, Bali's car dashed into a speed breaker at 12.30 am on Borivali East's SV Road following which Bali was admitted to Kandivali-based Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Shatabdi Hospital. His condition deteriorated later in the day and he succumbed to his injuries.
Gopinath Munde: BJP heavyweight and the Union Minister of Rural Development Gopinath Munde in the Modi government, died in a road accident in Delhi on the morning of June 3, 2014. He was 64 years old. The accident happened at 6:30 am when he was on his way to Indira Gandhi International airport to fly to Mumbai. His car was hit by another vehicle at Prithviraj road-Tughlak road roundabout in the heart of the capital, he was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where doctors declared him dead. Though Munde did not suffer any injuries, he apparently suffered a shock in the impact of the accident.
Sonika Chauhan: Popular model and TV prime time host, Sonika Chauhan, was killed when the SUV in which she was travelling met with an accident in south Kolkata on April 29, 2017. Sonika was 28-years-old when she lost her life in the tragic car accident.
Anand Abhyankar and Akshay Pendse: Two eminent Marathi film and television actors Anand Abhyankar and Akshay Pendse, were killed when their car collided with a tempo on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The incident took place near the Urse Toll Naka on December 23, 2012. The two were travelling with Pendse’s wife Deepti, their son Pratyush, and the car driver. They were heading towards Mumbai for an early morning shoot. Pendse's two-year-old son Pratyush also died in the accident.
Sanjay Gandhi: Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi, the son of Indira Gandhi, who was touted to succeed his mother as head of the Indian National Congress, lost his life in a plane crash on June 23, 1980. In trying to perform an aerobatic manoeuvre while flying a new aircraft at the Delhi Flying club, Sanjay Gandhi lost control of the aircraft and it crashed. The other passenger in the plane, Captain Subhash Saxena, also died in the crash.
Taruni Sachdev: Taruni Sachdev, better known as The Rasna girl, who also won hearts for her role in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Paa, died in a plane crash in Nepal in 2012. In a cruel twist of fate, she lost her life on her birthday. She was just 14-years-old.
Rajesh Pilot: Rajesh Pilot, who belonged to the Indian Nationalist Congress party, and also served as a minister in the government of India was killed in a road accident near Jaipur on June 11, 2000. Before making his foray into politics, Pilot was in the Indian Air Force. His son Sachin Pilot is also a politician and his daughter Sarika Pilot is a businesswoman.
Princess Diana: Diana, Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, aged 36. After leaving the Ritz Hotel, she was being driven at a high speed in a Mercedes S-280 when the vehicle crashed into a pillar in a tunnel under the Alma bridge. Princess Diana, her then-boyfriend Dodi Fayed, 41, the son of Egyptian billionaire Mohamed AlFayed and driver Henri Paul, all died in the crash which happened late in the night. Her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived. Paul was found to be drunk at the time of the crash and was attempting to flee pursuing paparazzi photographers
Kalpana Chawla: American astronaut Kalpana Chawla was the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. Kalpana lost her life in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster which took place on February 1, 2003. Kalpana and the other six crew members were aboard the space shuttle when it disintegrated over Texas during its re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. Kalpana Chawla's remains were cremated and scattered at the National Park in Utah in accordance with her wishes. The 74th Street in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City has been renamed after the astronaut Kalpana Chawla Way" in her honour.
Paul Walker: Actor Paul Walker who made a name for himself in the film Fast and Furious died in a car crash on November 30, 2013. He was 40 years old. Paul was seated as a co-passenger and his friend, a professional race car driver was driving the car, when it crashed into a light pole. Paul lost his life when the movie ‘Furious 7’ was in the middle of filming. The movie released a year later after his death.
Madhavrao Scindia: Madhavrao Scindia was the Son of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior. Madhavrao Scindia belonged the to Congress party and was considered as one of the great political figures of the Congress Party. Madhavrao Scindia died in a plane crash that took place on 30 September 2001 on the outskirts of Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. He along with seven other passengers who were on board the private plane (King Air C-90) died in the plane crash. His son Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is a politician with the Congree party, while his sister Vasundhara Raje is currently the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Yerran Naidu: Politician Yerran Naidu lost his life after he suffered a cardiac attack following a road accident in his native district Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. On the eve of November 2, 2012, while returning from a marriage ceremony at Visakhapatnam, Yerran Naidu's car collided with a oil tanker and Naidu was severely injured in the mishap. He was transported to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Srikakulam town, The doctor's efforts to resuscitate him failed and he passed away. A four-time member of Parliament and a member of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Yerran Naidu was survived by his wife Vijaya Kumari, a daughter and a son. Pic/ Midday Archive
YSR Reddy: Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy also popularly known as YSR Reddy was a two-time Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. YSR Reddy died in an air crash when the Bell 430 helicopter that he was traveling in crashed in the dense Nallamal forest on September 2, 2009. According to the reports, inclement weather had forced the helicopter off course which led to the tragic air crash. Dorjee Khandu: Khandu, a politician, who belonged to the Indian National Congress party served as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and was in power when he was killed. In 2011, the helicopter carrying Khandu and four other people on a trip from Tawang to Itanagar went off the radar. Khandu’s body was later found in Luguthang near China border. Ganti Mohana Chandra Balayogi: Also popularly known as GMC Balayogi, Balayogi was a lawyer and politician from Andhra Pradesh. The TDP leader and Lok Sabha member passed away on March 3, 2002, when the private helicopter he was traveling crashed while attempting to making an emergency landing.
