After lending her voice to songs in Akira (2016) and Noor (2017), Sonakshi Sinha has put her vocal chords to the test again. However, the stakes may be significantly higher this time, as the actor has stepped into legendary singer Geeta Dutt's shoes. mid-day has learnt that Sinha has sung the reprised version of Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu (Howrah Bridge, 1958) for her upcoming film, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. Reimagined by music composer Sohail Sen, the song — that was filmed on Sinha and co-star Jassie Gill in China last month — has been given a distinct Punjabi feel to it, in keeping with the setting of the romantic comedy that sees her character Harpreet ending up in China due to a case of mistaken identity. It was apparently director Mudassar Aziz's brainwave to have his leads croon the Helen classic.
