As part of the ongoing exercise Gagan Shakti-24, Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft recently operated from the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in the northern sector in Kashmir valley. A large number of troops were airlifted and subsequently air landed utilising Chinook, Mi-17 V5 and ALH Mk-III helicopters by night.IAF also plans to practise similar drills in coordination with administration of State Governments for activation of ELFs in other sectors. Various IAF fixed and rotary wing platforms will carry out coordinated landing and operations at these ELFs. Whole-of-the-Nation-Approach (WNA). ELF operations provide an opportunity for IAF aircraft to undertake operations from such restricted landing surfaces while also being able to undertake Humanitarian Assistance in Disaster Relief operations during times of natural calamities to provide relief. The capability to operate by night at these stretches of highways, and the capability to transfer troops from such surfaces will greatly enhance the operational capabilities of Indian Armed Force.

The IT employees in India’s Silicon City, Bengaluru on March 13, expressed dismay amid the Bengaluru water crisis in the Karnataka state. The depletion of groundwater and drying up of more than 3,000 borewells in the capital city has made it difficult for people here. The IT employees are now choosing Work from Home (WFH) due to water scarcity in Bengaluru. “If we get work from home it will be good as the water will be saved...it will save our time and water,” said Amogh, an IT employee. “More amount of water is spent if the employees go to the offices. It’s better to get work from home… Never thought that we would get WFH because of water scarcity,” said Varsha, an IT employee.

In a big setback to the faction led by Sharad Pawar, the Election Commission on February 06 settled the dispute in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in favour of the faction led by the petitioner Ajit Pawar. Celebration took over at Ajit Pawar Camp, as EC settled dispute in NCP. The poll panel has given the NCP name and symbol to the faction led by Ajit Pawar in a significant decision that has a bearing on the forthcoming polls. The decision was taken after more than 10 hearings spread over more than six months. Maharashtra Dy CM and petitioner Ajit Pawar welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to EC for the decision. Meanwhile, NCP Sharad Pawar Faction leader Supriya Sule alleged an “Adrishya Shakti” behind the EC’s decision. Shiva Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi called the development “Sponsored, planned and executed by Central Govt”. Panic buying of fuel in Mumbai and other cities across India is being witnessed amid fear of supply shortage. A few petrol pumps in Mumbai are even running dry as a result. This is a consequence of truck and bus drivers protest against the new hit and run law that punishes negligent driving. This new law provides up to 10 years of punishment for fleeing an accident spot without reporting the incident. But the truck drivers say this law is one-sided and harsh on them. The strike going forward is likely to impact the supplies of essential fruits and vegetables and hit the common man.

Soon after the video of Shajapur Collector snapping at protesting truck drivers and asking “Tumahari aukat kya hai” went viral on social media, the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister swung into action and suspended Collector Kishor Kanyal. The truck drivers were protesting a new Hit-and-run law that provides up to 10 years of punishment for fleeing an accident spot without reporting the incident. While the strike has been called off today after the government assured that it would consult stakeholders before implementing a contentious law against hit-and-run, a video of Shajapur Collector misbehaving with truck driver is still doing the rounds.
