Prithvi Shaw promises to keep Mumbai flag flying high in Nagpur

Mumbai's teenage batting sensation Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his last Ranji Trophy appearance of the ongoing season a memorable one. Shaw, 18, India's captain for the Under-19 World Cup, has been relieved from his World Cup camp activities to play the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Karnataka starting here  today. However, the opener, who has scored five centuries in his last eight first-class games, has to join his U-19 World Cup-bound team and coach Rahul Dravid for the camp in Bangalore on December 12.

"It's a very important match for us to make it to the Ranji Trophy semi-final. It will be my last Ranji match of this season and I wanted to score big in it. I will try my best to win this game for Mumbai," Prithvi told mid-day yesterday. Shaw, who made his Ranji Trophy debut memorable with a century against Tamil Nadu in the semi-final at Rajkot last season, is experiencing a busy time.

After Mumbai's recent win over Tripura, he played a couple of one-day matches in the U-19 Challengers Cup. He then rushed to Sri Lanka for an U-19 World Cup event since he is the India skipper. He landed in Mumbai on Tuesday night and left for Nagpur yesterday morning to attend the Mumbai team's practice session. He caught up on some sleep during the 90-minute Mumbai-Nagpur flight. "It's tough to do different things at the same time and shoulder various responsibilities, but I'm enjoying it," said Shaw.
