A splendid hat-trick by Vedant Girme powered Don Bosco High School (Borivli) into the semi-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised Olympian Walter D'Souza boys U-12 hockey tournament at St Stanislaus school ground, Bandra yesterday.

The Matunga team beat St Aloysius High School (Bandra) 3-0 in a Last-8 encounter.Vedant's solo effort handed the Borivli outfit the lead in the 13th minute. The striker then doubled his goal tally in the 18th minute as Don Bosco headed into the break with a two-goal advantage. After switching sides, Vedant was in the thick of the action again. Nine minutes into the second-half, the Borivli outfit striker breached the opponents' defence and scored to complete his hat-trick.
In another quarter-final match, St Stanislaus 'A' (Bandra) thrashed Dr Antonio Da Silva (Dadar) 8-0. Shaun D'Mello scored a hat-trick while Cristiano Corriea netted a brace. Kenan Pereira, Zeal Michael and Anselm Braganza scored a goal apiece. Earlier, Aaditya Gajula's brace helped Don Bosco 'B' (Matunga) edge out St Joseph Secondary School (Malad) 2-0. Meanwhile, Don Bosco 'A' entered the semis with a 4-0 win over St Dominic Savio (Andheri). Harshal Pednekar, Andron Christopher, Aashay Bhoyar and Gavin Rao scored a goal each for Don Bosco 'A' (Matunga).
