Cathedral and John Cannon were bowled out for a paltry 48 in 19.3 overs by Swami Vivekanand (Borivli) on Day One of the Harris Shield Elite Group second round at Parsee Gymkhana yesterday.


Medium pacer Suved Parkar and off-spinner Yash Jathar claimed three wickets apiece to cause their opposition's doom.


After winning their first game last week, Swami Vivekanand Borivli carried forward the same momentum into the second one as well. They declared at 241-2 with skipper Suved scoring an unbeaten 121 while Rajsingh Deshmukh reached 97 before he being run out.

They stitched a 204-run partnership for the second wicket.

Skipper Suved smashed 23 boundaries. Their great understanding created panic in the opposition camp.

At stumps, Cathedral and John Cannon were 7-1 in nine overs during their second innings. Swami Vivekanand will be looking to get another outright victory.

Swapnil slams 115
At Islam Gymkhana, Al-Barkaat MMI's Swapnil Chavan scored an unbeaten 115 to help his team dominate former champions Shardashram Vidyamandir (English) who were bowled out for 148 thanks to off- spinner Ibrahim Salim Khan (3-32) and left-arm spinner Md Nabijaan Ansari (2-24).

Shardashram won the toss and at one stage were struggling at 45-5. Swapnil Chavan and Faiz Rathod (44*) helped their side to end the day on 160/0.

Both batsmen timed their shots extremely well, leaving their rivals stunned.

Rizvi on top at Oval
Rizvi Springfield were heading for an outright win against IES Modern (Dadar) at the Vengsarkar Academy, Oval Maidan. Rizvi chose to field and bowled out IES for 44 in 24.2 overs with medium pacers Aakash Yadav (5-24) and Ajit Yadav (3-8) doing the damage.

In response, the Rizvi batters, led by centurion Shreyas Mandlik, slammed the bowlers to all parts of the maidan. Shreyas, who hit his second hundred in the Elite group, ended the day with an unbeaten 106 (off 117 balls). Alsaad Shaikh (53) and Yash Salunkhe (46) were the other main scorers.

IES on a high
IES New English School (Bandra) reached 299 for nine at the end of the opening day against Swami Vivekanand (Kandivli) in good batting conditions at the PJ Hindu Gymkhana.

Half centuries from Jash Ganiga, Palash Pawar and Manan Bhatt gave IES the edge even as leg-spinner Rithik Jain claimed 3-38 and Sai Naidu chipped in with two wickets for the Kandivli outfit who later in the day lost two wickets without any runs on the board.

Shreyas' 162 for Balmohan
Balmohan Vidyamandir's Shreyas Phatak smashed an unbeaten 162 off 180 balls in his side's total of 309-5 against Jamnabai Narsee at Matunga Gymkhana.

Atharva Chavan (50) and Swarup Kamble (33) too helped their school declare at 309 for 5. Jamnabai were 31-2 at stumps.

Manal's magnificent 120
Don Bosco (Matunga) scored 262-6 declared in 53 overs after Manal Kawale slammed 120 against VPMS Vidyamandir (Dahisar) at Bombay Gymkhana. Manal put on 103 runs with Saqib Mulani before VPMS ended the day in a precarious situation at 71 for 7 with Atharva Baperkar claiming four wickets.
