Tech giant Apple on Wednesday rolled out something that could probably be the next big thing for this generation. With the launch of the M5 chip, Apple has now taken the AI game to a whole new level. Their latest silicon innovation, the M5 chip, marks a major leap forward in AI as well as in computing performance.
As informed by Apple, the M5 chip is built on third-generation 3-nanometre technology that brings massive performance gains with a next-generation GPU for optimum performance, along with adaptive learning features to enhance your personalised computation process. The M5 chip has been integrated with Neural Accelerators in every core, delivering over 4x the peak GPU compute performance compared to its predecessor, the M4.
Advanced GPU architecture
At the heart of Apple’s M5 chip lies a 10-core GPU architecture. This top-of-the-line GPU redefines how your iPad, MacBook or Vision Pro devices handle AI-driven workloads. Each and every GPU core on the M5 chip has been integrated with a dedicated Neural Accelerator that will drastically improve the performance of your device in every way.
While highlighting their marquee processor, Apple said, “This advancement delivers up to 6x faster AI performance than the M1 and up to 45 per cent higher graphics performance than the M4, thanks to third-generation ray tracing and dynamic caching.”
Massive CPU upgrade
If you are thinking that the GPU is enough, you are wrong. Apple this time surprises you with some subtle yet very effective CPU advancements as well. The CPU of the M5 chip comes with a 10-core CPU comprising four performance cores and six efficiency cores. The perfectly combined integration of the CPU cores on this chip provides up to 15 per cent faster multithreaded performance than the previous generation M4, making multitasking and heavy workloads smoother across devices like the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro.
Enhanced memory to do even more with AI
Moreover, the M5 also offers a unified memory bandwidth of 153GB/s, providing a nearly 30 per cent increase over the M4 and more than 2x over the M1. The unified memory architecture of the M5 chip enables the entire chip to access a large single pool of memory, which allows the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro to run larger AI models completely on-device.
Integrated with such massive AI upgrades, the M5 chip fuels the faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, offering higher multithreaded performance in apps, and faster graphics performance in creative apps and games.
