People in Jammu and Kashmir are doing their last minute shopping of goats and lambs ahead of Eid-al-Adha. In Srinagar, scores of vendors were seen selling goats and sheep of varying sizes, as they tried to do maximum business before the sacrifice feast begins on Friday and ends on Saturday. A vendor said there was no standard rate for the cattle and it all depends on the weight. A customer, who was out to buy lambs and goats, said this Eidgah area in the city is famous for its animal fair, as vendors come from several urban and rural areas of Kashmir. As per the religious belief, Eid ul Adha is celebrated on the day when Prophet Abraham offered to sacrifice his son, but God asked to offer an animal instead. So, he sacrificed a goat.
