In 1947, Britain′s Indian Empire was partitioned into two new nations: the Dominion of India (later the Republic of India) and the Dominion of Pakistan (later the Islamic Republic of Pakistan). The two nations were ideally born on the same day, but do you know why Pakistan celebrates its Independence day on 14th August? Did you know that Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan in 1947 and was called East Pakistan until 1971? Indian money was still used as currency in Pakistan until 1948.
