Bastille Day, also known as France’s National Day, is observed on July 14. In France, the day is commonly referred to as ‘le 14 juillet’ or ‘la fête nationale’.

History and significance
Parisians stormed the Bastille fortress & prison on July 14, 1789, which acted as a spark for the French Revolution.

It also commemorates ‘Fête de la Fédération’ which was observed on July 14, 1790, to symbolise national unity. The day was declared a national holiday in 1880.

Celebrations
The French military parade is held on this day every year at Champs-Élysées. The celebrations also include a drone light show and fireworks at the Eiffel Tower.
