Structure vs Stacking
Many conventional mattresses are constructed by stacking horizontal sheets of material. That can work well, but adding more layers does not by itself create more intelligent support. The body is not a uniform load. Shoulders, torso, pelvis and legs place different pressures on the sleep surface.
