Sunjay Kapur passed away in June of this year from a heart attack in London. He has been married to Priya since 2017. Sunjay and Karisma were formerly married from 2003 to 2016. Sunjay founded and served as chairman of Sona Comstar, an automobile maker. According to sources, his estate is worth Rs 30,000 crore.

A legal battle has erupted over late billionaire Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 crore empire, which includes actor Karisma Kapoor's daughters Samaira and Kiaan. Karisma's children filed a civil complaint in the Delhi High Court, claiming that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, attempted to fake their father's will. The court has now ordered Priya Kapur to reveal all moveable and immovable assets of Sunjay Kapur as on June 12, 2025, the date he died. In a shocking twist, Sunjay Kapur's sister, Mandhira Kapur Smith, has stepped out in support of Karisma's children.

Priya alleged, through her lawyer Rajiv Nayyar, that Karisma had been away from Sunjay's life for 15 years before suddenly reappearing after his death. "I'm his legal wife. The claims of love and affection - where was all this when they waged lengthy divorce legal battles in the Supreme Court?" Rajiv said in court.

In addition, Karisma Kapoor's daughters, Samaira and Kiaan, filed a petition with the Delhi High Court seeking a share of their late father's assets. In their appeal, the two children alleged that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, fabricated Sunjay's will. They claimed that their father's putative will is forged and contrived, rather than a legitimate and authentic document.

They said that this is why neither the original nor a copy of the Alleged Purported Will were disclosed to them. As a result, the children sought that the court supply them with a copy of the document in question.

The senior advocate on behalf of mother Rani Kapur, Vaibhav Gaggar told ANI, “This fight is really more between Karisma Kapoor and Priya Sachdev — whether there is a will or there is no will etc. Rani Kapur does get impacted by it but she will file a response and you will know her stand.”

He went on to add, "She [Rani Kapur] has been made defendant number 3 in her capacity as a class 1 heir of Sanjay Kapur...Now that the matters are coming to court, it would not be appropriate for me to give any further comments. But Mrs Kapur has been quite unequivocal in what her stand has been. It remains the same."

Meanwhile, Sunjay’s sister, Mandhira Kapur, has also made some serious allegations. Recently, she claimed that her mother was locked in a room by the board members of Sona Comstar and made to sign papers without being informed of anything.

Since Sunjay Kapur's death, his family has fought over his will and possessions. Safira, Sunjay's third wife Priya Sachdev's daughter, is said to have lost her surname 'Chatwal' and adopted 'Kapur'. According to industry insiders, the shift may be more than just symbolic, but also a strategic move aimed at strengthening her claim to the estate.

The court battle isn't over yet. Priya was asked to submit the legal proof regarding the will and the Rs 1,900 cr, which was given by Priya to Karisma Kapoor and her kids regarding the share in the inheritance
