Before coming to Bollywood, Aditya has worked with Delhi Music Theatre for over 20 years.

Aditya moved to Mumbai in 2006 and started working as an assistant director in several films

He has also reportedly worked as a radio jockey (RJ) during his initial days in Mumbai.

Aditya has also contributed in writing the lyrics for songs in films like Kabul Express, Haal-e-Dil and Daddy Cool, among others.

He has also contributed dialogues to director Priyadarshan's films Aakrosh and Tezz.

Aditya Dhar has spoken about suffering from severe dyslexia in his childhood and overcoming it. He also revealed that the learning disorder made reading extremely difficult.

Aditya Dhar is also an avid cricket lover.

During an interview, the filmmaker revealed that during his childhood, he wanted to be an army officer. Being a Kashmiri Pandit and hearing about terrorism, he had an inclination towards the armed forces.

After serving as the leading studio executive at UTV Motion Pictures and Fox Star Studios. Later, in 2021, he, along with brother Lokesh, co-founded the production company B62 Studios.

Aditya made his directorial debut with the film Uri: The Surgical Strike in 2019.

He went on to win a National Film Award for Best Director for his debut film Uri.

In June 2021, Dhar married Indian actress Yami Gautam in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, after which they welcomed their first child, Vedavid in 2024.
