'Race 2' to 'Pathaan', a look at box office performance of Republic day releases in the past 10 years

Republic Day 2024: The weekend of January 26 has been a big date for major Hindi film releases over the years. The holiday has been reserved for some of the biggest releases of the year. As Fighter takes up the spot this year, we look back at the collections of the previous years

Stils from Race 2 and Pathaan

Race 2 (Jan 25, 2013)

The film directed by Abbas-Mustan with Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Jacqueline Fernandez collected Rs 15.12 cr on its opening day. The film collected Rs 51.35 cr in its first weekend and earned a lifetime of Rs 100.45 cr

 

Jai Ho (Jan 24, 2014) 

Salman Khan plays a military officer who devises a plan to increase social responsibility among citizens. The film earned Rs 17.75 crore on day and wrapped the weekend with a collection of Rs 60.68 cr. The film has a lifetime collection of Rs 116 crore

Dolly Ki Doli (Jan 23, 2015)

Headlined by Sonam Kapoor, this whacky comedy earned Rs 2.55 cr on opening day. It collected Rs 10.75 cr on the first weekend and collected Rs 19.26 cr lifetime

Baby (Jan 23, 2015)

Akshay Kumar's patriotic film earned Rs 9.3 cr on its opening day and ended the first weekend with a collection of Rs 36.07 cr in India. The film has a lifetime collection of Rs 95.56 cr

Airlift (Jan 22, 2016) 

After Baby, Akshay Kumar came with this film based on a true story for Republic Day. The film which also stars Nimrat Kaur earned Rs 12.35 cr and collected Rs 44.30 cr in its opening weekend. The film collected Rs 128.1 crore lifetime

Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 (Jan 22, 2016)

This Tusshar Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani film was released a few days before Republic Day. The adult comedy earned Rs 8.15 cr on opening day and ended the first weekend with a collection of Rs 20.15. The lifetime of the film is Rs 30.25 cr 

Raees (Jan 25, 2017) 

Shah Rukh Khan's action film earned an easy Rs 20.42 cr on its opening day. Despite average reviews, the film earned Rs 93.24 in the opening weekend and ended with a lifetime of Rs 137.51 cr

Kaabil (Jan 25, 2017) 

Clashing with 'Raees' was Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam-starrer 'Kaabil'. The film earned Rs 10.43 cr on day 1 with a collection of Rs 67.46 cr in its opening weekend. The film has a lifetime of Rs 103.84 cr

Padmaavat (2018):

Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor earned Rs 24 crore on opening day despite the controversy around it. 

Thackeray (Jan 25, 2019) 

Nawazuddin Siddiqui brought Bal Thackeray alive on screen with his performance. The film earned Rs 2.75 cr on opening day and collected Rs 10.5 cr on its opening day. The film made a lifetime of Rs 18.19 cr

Manikarnika - The Queen of Jhansi (Jan 25, 2019) 

Kangana Ranaut's controversial film opened at Rs 7.75 cr at the Indian box office. The film collected Rs 41.35 cr in the opening weekend and made a lifetime of Rs 92.19 cr

 

Panga (Jan 24, 2020) 

The Kangana Ranaut-starrer directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwary earned Rs 2.70 cr at the box office. The film collected Rs 14.91 cr in the opening weekend and collected Rs 28.92 cr lifetime

Street Dancer 3D (Jan 24, 2020) 

Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor's dance drama earned Rs 9.50 cr on the opening day despite clash with Manikarnika. The film earned Rs 39 cr in opening weekend and collected a lifetime of Rs 68.28 cr

Gandhi Godse- Ek Yudh (Jan  25, 2023)

The film that clashed with Pathaan earned a lifetime of Rs 2.40 cr

Pathaan (Jan 25, 2023) 

Shah Rukh Khan's comeback vehicle broke all existing records at the box office with an opening day collection of Rs 57 cr. The film earned Rs 280.75 in its extended first weekend and has a lifetime collection of Rs 543.05 cr

Fighter (Jan 25, 2024)

The Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer comes from the maker of Pathaan, director Siddharth Anand. It is to be seen if the film will recreate the magic of Pathaan at the box office
