While it was designated as a reserve forest in 1879 and a wildlife sanctuary in 1933, it was formed as a national park on June 1 in 1955, and eventually a tiger reserve in 1973
While Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand has over 250 tigers, the most in India, Madhya Pradesh including Kanha National Park reportedly has the most numbers of tigers among all the states in India
