Colaba
Sarfaraz Baghdadi, founder of Treks and Trails, takes the group through a route that begins in Colaba during night-time and also ends there. “We head from Colaba to Nariman Point, then to Wilson College and towards Babulnath, Haji Ali, Worli seaface, go past Mahalaxmi Station, then to Jacob Circle at Byculla then back to CSMT station, Asiatic Library and then back to Colaba,” he says.
Colaba to Matunga
Vijay Barai, part of the bicycle group Wandering Souls, says that their night-time bicycle ride starts at Colaba and ends at Matunga’s Ramashray Hotel in the early morning hours.
Borivali
Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Borivali is an ideal destination for cycling. Apart from just enjoying the ride, once can also explore the natural richness of the area on two wheels.
Manori
For early risers, Barai recommends cycling in Manori. “For a morning breakfast ride, we go to Manori; you have to take a ferry from Gorai and there is a route from Manori to Pagoda. It is a shaded route on both sides of the road,” he says.
Other routes
According to Baghdadi, the Shivaji Park area is a good area to ride and if you really want to be adventurous, you can head to Sewri fort and see flamingos, near the Bombay Port Trust area.
It is generally safer to embark on cycling trails with a group, especially during the night.
