The protesting motor-grader operators claimed that there were plans to outsource civic maintenance work to private agencies and they were protesting against the move

Police personnel were deployed outside the civic headquarters as the workers gathered to voice their concerns

The protesters said such services form an important part of the BMC's core responsibilities and should continue to be carried out by municipal employees rather than being handed over to private contractors

The workers assembled outside Gate No. 1 of the BMC headquarters and raised slogans as part of their protest on Monday

The protest also highlighted concerns among municipal workers about the future of their roles if more civic services are outsourced
