IN PHOTOS: BMC wakes up after mid-day reports; several roads yet to recover

In the wake of a mid-day report drawing attention to unfinished cement concrete (CC) roadwork that was supposed to be completed by May 31, and the date to complete pouring of cement for concreting was May 20; the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed the work on the road in Andheri that was specifically mentioned in the story. However, the work seemed far from complete at other locations visited by mid-day. (Pics/ Nimesh Dave/ Ranjeet Jadhav / Ashish Raje/ Madhulika Ram Kavattur )

On Monday, mid-day revisited SVP Nagar in Andheri West, where the CC work had earlier remained incomplete on a stretch of Mahadeshwar Lane. During our visit, we found that the CC work had been completed on both sides of the road. Pic/Ranjeet Jadhav

The roadwork at Military Road near Prime Academy, Andheri East, has been nearly completed. Locals can now travel freely. Earlier concerns from hotel employees about guest complaints have subsided, with no new issues reported. There has also been no waterlogging reported. Pic/Ashish Raje

Work at Matoshree Ramabai Marg, Malad West, began in mid-April. While one side of the road is complete and cement pouring has begun on the other, a portion still lies dug up. The BMC barricade mentions May 31, 2025, as the deadline. Post-rain update (Monday): Work remained stalled. No activity took place over the weekend due to the labourers’ holiday, followed by Monday’s heavy rains. Although walkability is severely affected, there were no flood-like situations reported. Work began at Shrikrishna Nagar, Borivli East, around the end of February. This is the only crossroad in the area where cement pouring hasn’t even started. Other roads nearby are either fully completed or at least concreted. The deadline is also May 31. Post-rain update (Monday): Cement pouring hasn’t begun. While workers earlier said work would begin Tuesday-Wednesday, they now claim the rain may delay things further. The road closure continues to inconvenience residents indefinitely. Pic/Nimesh Dave

Road No 5 in TPS Colony remains in poor condition. Although asphalt has been laid instead of concrete, gaps and potholes are already visible, and construction debris lines the sides. Residents fear that due to rushed work, the road may cause more problems than before. Pic/Ashish Raje
