Mumbai’s Jamboree Ground in Worli turned into a vibrant hub of Dahi Handi celebrations on Saturday as govinda pathaks gathered in large numbers to mark Janmashtami
The ground was filled with festive energy as teams of govindas prepared to take on the traditional challenge of breaking the Dahi Handi by forming multi-storey human pyramids
The celebrations brought together participants who displayed strength, balance, coordination and teamwork as they attempted to reach the suspended clay pots
Dahi Handi is an integral part of Janmashtami celebrations and commemorates the childhood antics of Lord Krishna, who is traditionally believed to have enjoyed stealing butter and curd from pots kept out of reach. The tradition has evolved into a major public celebration in Mumbai, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic participation from govinda pathaks across the city
The human pyramids, some rising several levels high, provided a dramatic visual highlight as the govindas worked together to reach the handi
The event was earlier attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
