The bridge was permanently closed for traffic on the night of September 12, 2025

Following the closure of the bridge, civic teams has now began digging the road as part of its demolition

The demolition will clear space for the Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector, a significant road project that will link the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road with the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, also known as Atal Setu

Local authorities have advised commuters to seek alternative routes during the construction period

The 125-year-old bridge will now be demolished to make way for a new project

Some pedestrians were seen walking through the barricaded section of the bridge on Monday evening
