The new bridge that will take its place will be a double-decker structure with the first tier catering to east-west connectivity between Prabhadevi and Parel, and the second tier linking Atal Setu with the coastal road

After days of demolition works at the bridge, the structure was rendered unusable, cutting off both vehicular and pedestrian access

Both vehicular and pedestrian access to the bridge was closed from September 12
