The blaze was reported at the Mahalaxmi Refuse Transfer Station (MRTS) near Dhobi Ghat on Wednesday to prevent the fire from reigniting, officials said

The station is a key part of Mumbai’s modern waste management system and handles about 750–800 tonnes of solid waste daily

The fire broke out in a pile of garbage at the transfer station, said an official

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters continued to spray water over the area to ensure it did not spark again

The blaze was later extinguished completely, said the official
