The chain collision took place at a sharp curve near Gaimukh Ghat, with vehicles reportedly colliding head-on in quick succession, resulting in extensive damage

Videos from the site showed several cars badly mangled, with some almost completely crushed due to the impact

The accident led to long traffic queues on Ghodbunder Road, a key arterial route connecting Thane, Mumbai’s western suburbs, and Gujarat

Commuters heading towards Mira Road and Gujarat faced significant delays during peak morning hours

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) and the Fire Brigade, were deployed to carry out rescue operations and remove damaged vehicles

Traffic police managed congestion and diverted vehicles while clearance work continued to restore normal traffic flow

A Tata container truck carrying an estimated 35–40 tonnes of cement bags was descending the Gaimukh ghat towards Thane when it allegedly rammed into vehicles travelling in the opposite direction towards Borivali due to oil spill from vehicles

The truck driver reportedly fled the scene after the crash

Emergency teams from the Disaster Management Cell and the Fire Brigade quickly spread soil over the spilled oil to prevent further hazards

All accident-affected vehicles have now been moved to the roadside
