A Tata container truck carrying an estimated 35–40 tonnes of cement bags was descending the Gaimukh ghat towards Thane when it allegedly rammed into vehicles travelling in the opposite direction towards Borivali due to oil spill from vehicles
The truck driver reportedly fled the scene after the crash
Emergency teams from the Disaster Management Cell and the Fire Brigade quickly spread soil over the spilled oil to prevent further hazards
All accident-affected vehicles have now been moved to the roadside
