According to the FDA, a large rat was seen entering the kitchen of the Malad hotel through an open drainage line, while another was found near the ceiling
Officials also found an open and unhygienic drainage system, which could allow rodents and insects to enter the food preparation area, it said
Live cockroaches were reportedly found on kitchen equipment, including a dough-mixing machine
The Maharashtra FDA also noted stagnant water, grease deposits, drainage leakage and an unpleasant smell in the kitchen
Another Mumbai establishment, Janata Tawa and Grill in Kurla West, also faced action after officials found several food safety violations
The inspection reportedly found raw meat and poultry stored without adequate temperature control and without proper separation from other materials
Officials also found food-contact equipment and utensils covered with grease, food residue and carbon deposits. Burnt food residue was reportedly found on grills and racks
The establishment's FSSAI licence was suspended following the inspection
