According to the officials, the blaze was initially categorised as a level-II fire. By 11:44 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade escalated the incident to a Level-III (major) fire, as flames spread across 10 to 12 chawl structures (hutments)
The affected godown is located opposite to Kapadia Nagar, an official said
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Fire Brigade received the call at 11:08 pm following which a fire-fighting operation was launched
The fire reportedly broke out in a godown within the chawl
No injuries have been so far reported in the incident, officials said
