Tawde on Tuesday visited the city’s entry points at Vashi Naka, Airoli Naka and Mulund Naka to review plans for constructing iconic gateway structures and civic amenity complexes, according to an official statement. Pics/BMC

The inspection was carried out to speed up the proposed project aimed at creating landmark entry gates and clock towers that reflect the identity and culture of the city

During her visit, the mayor said the project would not be limited to building decorative arches. Instead, the plan is to develop concept-based gateways representing Mumbai’s social, cultural and economic identity

She said that the gateways should give visitors, tourists and citizens entering the city would get a distinct sense of Mumbai

Earlier, a similar site inspection had been carried out at Dahisar check naka, another major entry point into the city

Along with the gateway structures at the check entry-points, the Mumbai civic body plans to develop comprehensive public facility complexes near these locations
