The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai on Saturday, August 16

Citizens are urged to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary due to intense rainfall and the risk of flooding

The total rainfall recorded for the day was 68.80 mm, contributing to a cumulative total of 1,764.71 mm for 2025 so far, compared to 2,515.36 mm in 2024 during the same period

Authorities have requested that citizens take necessary precautions, stay indoors, and ensure their safety during the heavy downpour

The Mumbai Police has also issued a warning to citizens following the IMD alert. In a post on X, the department stated, "Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and exercise caution while venturing out"
