Date's appointment comes as the tenure of the incumbent DGP, Rashmi Shukla, ended on January 3, 2026

Sadanand Date is a 1990-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. In his career so far, he has held several key positions in the Maharashtra Police
During his tenure with the Mumbai Police, he served as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order). He also held charge as the Commissioner of Police of the Mira-Bhayandar Police Commissionerate
