The next high tide was expected to hit Mumbai seashores at 2:12 am on Sunday at 3.94 meters, the civic officials said
They said that a low tide was expected occur at 8:35 pm on Saturday at 1.46 meters, and at 8:02 am on Sunday at 0.87 meters
Meanwhile, Mumbai on Saturday woke up to a generally cloudy sky, with moderate rainfall expected throughout the day in both the city and suburban areas
The IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday
Police officials were stationed at the Gateway of India to manage crowds and prevent tourists or locals from venturing too close to the turbulent seafront
The high tide, coupled with rainfall at regular intervals, caused sea water to crash against the promenade
Earlier this week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday issued an advisory warning of high tides in the Arabian Sea over the next five days, with waves expected to rise more than 4.5 metres
The Mumbai civic body has urged citizens to avoid visiting beaches during high tide hours on these days to ensure safety
